Crime consists of two actions in which I held a hand-written cardboard sign that read, Is it a crime to be poor? The first action took place in Oakland where I appealed to cars and passersby while walking along the center divider on San Pablo Ave. For the second action, I sat outside a San Francisco convenience store holding a sign with the same words.
As I performed these actions in Oakland and San Francisco, I questioned whether I was asking the right question on my sign. Was I adding value to a movement against poverty or still mocking people who are less fortunate than I am?
